WASHINGTON, Pa. – Visiting Shenandoah University dominated possession, but it was host Washington and Jefferson coming out on top in a 2-1 non-league field hockey victory Saturday afternoon.
Shenandoah (1-1) took 11 of the game's 17 shots and 10 of 15 penalty corners only to see W&J score one goal in each half to down the Hornets.
The Presidents scored in the 14th and 43rd minutes before SU kept itself in it thanks to a Sarah Reed unassisted tally in the 52nd minute.
Shenandoah had three penalty corners and two shots following that Reed goal, but was unable to get the equalizer.
Goalkeepers Jessica Brown and Jenna Rampale each played 35 minutes with Rampale recording one save.
SU is back in action on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in a non-league game against McDaniel.
