WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University field hockey team earned its second home victory of the season Tuesday afternoon with a 7-2 win over McDaniel.
The Hornets (2-1) peppered the Green Terror (1-2) goal with 12 first-half shots on their way to a 3-0 lead at the break. Senior Taylor Little put the hosts on top to stay with her unassisted goal just 47 seconds in while Kayla Alderman and Maddie Lamarca scored just 26 seconds apart in the 31st minute.
Lamarca's goal, off of an Elizabeth Pardo assist, proved to be the game-winner.
Maddie Price made it 4-0 with an unassisted goal 12:22 into the second half before McDaniel got on the board in the 53rd minute.
Shenandoah then cruised home to the win by scoring three of the game's final four goals. Katelyn Curtis, Morgan Payne and Sarah Reed all scored with Little and Pardo registering assists on Payne's and Reed's goals, respectively.
SU outshot the Terror 19-12 and had an 11-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Jenna Rampale had five saves in playing the final 35 minutes.
The seven goals scored is the greatest offensive output since an 8-0 win over Hood on September 3, 2013. The Hornets had played 57 games since that blowout victory.
Shenandoah is back in action on Saturday at noon versus York (Pa.).
