FERRUM, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's soccer team opened up its 2016 season Saturday with a 4-2 non-league loss at Ferrum.
After Austin McCarron gave the Hornets (0-1) the early lead with an unassisted goal just 6:19 into the contest, Ferrum (1-1) reeled off the next four straight to seize control.
The Panthers scored in the 17th, 57th, 63rd and 72nd minutes before McCarron converted a penalty kick in the 90th minute to close the day's scoring.
FC outshot the Hornets 18-13 with SU taking three of the game's five corners.
Goalkeepers Matt Sweeney and Derek Thomas split six saves.
Shenandoah continues this road trip with a Wednesday non-league contest at
Hood.
