WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's soccer team earned its second victory in as many outings Saturday with a 2-0 home shutout over Juniata.
The Hornets (2-0) scored one goal in each half to dispatch the Eagles (0-2) in the first-ever women's soccer matchup between the two schools.
Freshman Juliet Karnes had what proved to be the game-winner, scoring off of an Alison Spaziani feed in the 42nd minute.
Twenty minutes later, another freshman, Emily Yergin, finished off a Kelsie Luddington assist to give SU some breathing room and eventually close the book on the day's scoring.
SU took 15 of the game's 22 shots while Juniata had a 3-2 advantage in penalty corners.
Senior goalkeeper Erin Septer had to make just two saves in posting her second straight shutout.
"Today was a good win us and a good way to open the home schedule," Shenandoah coach Liz Pike said. "It also gave us an opportunity to play a bunch of our freshmen. This gives us some exciting options.
Pike's club continues this homestand on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. non-league contest Hood.
