Women's Soccer Extinguishes Blazers

By Lara Pluska

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's soccer team ran its winning streak to three games Tuesday night with a 4-0 non-league shutout victory over Hood.

Freshman Jessica Stuart had the game-winner, scoring her first collegiate goal with just more than 10 minutes to play in the first half.

Stuart's classmates, Emily Yergin and Alison Spaziani, followed with goals in the 48th and 52nd minutes to put the Hornets (3-0) in total control.

Stuart assisted on Spaziani's tally.

Another frosh, Sara Fuller, closed out the scoring by converting a Jennifer Nguyen cross in the 65th minute.

"Another great team effort tonight," SU coach Liz Pike said. "We continue to be pleased with many of our freshmen who are stepping into some big-time roles."

Shenandoah held the Blazers (1-2) without a shot while taking 20 of its own during the contest.

Hornet goalkeeper Erin Septer, who was named ODAC Player of the Week earlier in the day, did not have to make a save in posting her third straight (and 19th career) shutout.

Hood goalie Rachel Knoebel had five saves.

The Hornets take to the road this weekend to play Swarthmore and Rutgers-Newark in the Rutgers-Newark Tournament. SU plays Swarthmore on Saturday at 4.
