BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team earned its second ODAC victory of the season Wednesday night with a 57-54 victory at Bridgewater.
Shenandoah (6-8, 2-3 ODAC) rebounded from a six-point halftime deficit to defeat Bridgewater (5-9, 2-3) on the court for the first time since January 8, 2009. BC had won nine straight since that SU victory.*
Down 23-17 at the break after shooting just 21 percent (6 for 28) in the first half, the Hornets saw Bridgewater expand its lead out to 14 points by scoring 12 of the initial 16 points of the second.
And then the Hornets caught fire.
Shenandoah roared back into the contest, outscoring BC 26-6 over the next 6:43 to take a 47-41 lead with 6:34 remaining.
Clark had nine of the squad's 26 points during that run with Dalon McHugh adding 10.
McHugh's 10 points also represented his point total for the game. The sophomore had four field goals, including a 3-pointer, and one free throw.
Bridgewater refused to fold its tents, answering with a 13-4 run of its own to take a 54-51 lead with 2:01 left.
Again, Shenandoah had an answer.
Derrick Perry brought the Hornets to within one, 54-53, on a dunk with 1:04 left before Clark scored the final four points of the game. He put SU on top to stay with a layup at 24 seconds and then closed it out with a pair of free throws at the 12-second mark.
Clark added 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the year to pace the victors in both categories.
Shenandoah outrebounded Bridgewater 38-32 and ended up shooting 40 percent for the game after making 15 of its 25 field goal attempts (60 percent) in the second half.
*Shenandoah was awarded a 2-0 forfeit victory over BC after the Eagles used an ineligible player in the February 6, 2013 contest between the two schools.
