Wasps Sting Men's Hoops

EMORY, Va. – Host Emory and Henry shot a sizzling 57 percent on its way to a 109-76 ODAC men's basketball victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.

The Wasps (10-5, 4-2 ODAC) pulled away from Shenandoah (6-9, 2-4) with a 15-0 run to complete the first half.

Senior Malcolm Clark, who finished with 11 points, brought the Hornets to within four, 37-33, by finishing a fastbreak layup with 4:26 remaining in the first.

Unfortunately for SU, it would be the squad's final points of the stanza.

E&H scored the final 15 points of the first and four of the initial five points of the second to turn the close game into a rout.

The final points in this 19-1 spurt gave the Wasps a 22-point lead and they held at least an 18-point advantage the rest of the way.

Shenandoah was able to cut it to that 18-point deficit as senior EJ Baltimore scored seven of his team-high 16 points in a 90-second span.

Emory and Henry answered with a 34-12 run over the next 8:35 that gave the hosts a 40-point lead with 7:13 to play.

SU ended the game by scoring 23 of the game's final 39 points to fall by 33.

The Wasps made 36 of 63 from the field for that 57 percent shooting performance while making 15 of 27 (56 percent) from behind the arc and 22 of 24 from the line (92 percent).

E&H also had a 45-34 advantage on the glass.

In addition to Baltimore's 16 and Clark's 11, Evan Bates had 13 and Kwa McDonald 11.

Clark also had a team-high six rebounds.

Six of the nine Wasps who played double-digit minutes scored in double figures. Clif Conley led this group with 19 points in 16 minutes.

Shenandoah hosts league co-leader Randolph-Macon on Wednesday at 7.
