WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Virginia Wesleyan got a goal midway through the second half to earn a 3-2 ODAC men's soccer victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.
With the game knotted at 2-2 following an own goal, Andrew Duenke scored off of a Miciah Brown assist in the 70th minute to put VWU (8-8, 3-5 ODAC) on top to stay.
Trailing 2-0, Shenandoah (2-14-1, 0-7-1) brought the contest back to level thanks to a Sam Natkin-to-Brian Maye goal in the 59th minute and the own goal in the 63rd.
The Marlins got their initial two goals in the 52nd and 58th minutes, the latter scored by Duenke.
Hornets goalkeeper Sam Fischer, who finished with eight saves, had six in the first half to hold the Marlins off the scoreboard.
His defense also had one save in each half.
After being held to two shots in the opening 45 minutes, Shenandoah had five shots in the second half to increase the pressure on the VWU goal.
Virginia Wesleyan also had an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Shenandoah completes its season on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. home game versus Eastern Mennonite.
