Women's Soccer Routs Vixens

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's soccer team set a new program record for shots in a game in a 10-0 ODAC victory at Sweet Briar Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah (8-8, 3-5 ODAC) took 69 shots in the contest as it shut out the Vixens (1-12, 0-8) for the fourth time in five ODAC era meetings with the squad.

Eight different women registered at least one point in the win with Liz Keefer and Juliet Karnes registering hat tricks.

Sophomore Emily Yergin had the game-winner, tallying off of an Alison Spaziani assist in the ninth minute to put SU on top to stay.

Shenandoah then scored in the 17th, 24th, 40th, 47th, 50th, 56th, 64th (twice) and 72nd minutes to provide the final margin of victory.

For Karnes, the three goals scored were her second through fourth goals of the year. She had scored her first goal of the season versus Hollins on October 4.

She had her first goal at 39:39 before tallying at 63:03 and 63:35 to complete the hat trick.

"Juliet had a nice hat trick today," Hornets coach Liz Pike said. "This was a good win."

Shenandoah took 38 of its shots in the first half and 31 in the second. The Hornets also had all seven of the game's corners.

Goalkeepers Haley Golden, Charlotte Evans and Kasey Richitt split time in goal with Golden getting the win thanks to playing the initial 43:52.

Yergin had two goals and Spaziani three assists to round out the multiple-point scorers.

SU plays its final home game of the season on Wednesday in a 7 p.m. Senior Night contest versus Randolph-Macon. Lauren Johnson, Michelle Krause and Alex Wessel will all be honored prior to the game.
