WINCHESTER, Va.- The Shenandoah University volleyball team completed its ODAC home slate Tuesday evening with a 3-0 loss to second place Washington and Lee.
The Generals (21-6, 10-1 ODAC) won the final volleyball match in Shingleton Gymnasium history with wins at 20, 23 and 18 over the Hornets (9-17, 3-8).
Shenandoah, which saw its three-match winning streak snapped with the loss, held a lead in each of the three sets.
In the third, SU led as late as 16-10 before W&L roared back to clinch the win by scoring 15 of the final 17 points of the set.
The two teams combined for 10 lead changes and 18 ties. Sixteen of those situations happened in the second set as the two teams traded the lead six times and were tied on 10 occasions.
Senior Kaitlyn Kelley led the hosts with seven kills with Sabrina Semo adding five and Emily Cheatwood four.
Megan Hillyard had all 20 of the Hornets assists.
Nicole Shannon paced the defense with 10 digs.
Shenandoah is now 1/2 game behind Eastern Mennonite and Randolph College for eighth place in the league. If the Royals and WildCats both lose their respective final league matches, the three teams will tie for the eighth and final spot in the conference tournament. In this case, the eighth seed will be determined by tiebreaker.
SU completes its regular season on Saturday with a non-league tri-match at PSU-Berks. The Hornets face both the host Lions in addition to St. Elizabeth.
