EMORY, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team shut out Emory & Henry Sunday afternoon to earn a berth into the ODAC Tournament for the sixth straight season.
The Hornets (10-8, 5-5 ODAC) 3-0 victory over the Wasps (4-12-1, 3-6-1) gives SU the seventh seed at the upcoming league tournament.
As the seventh seed, Shenandoah earns a quarterfinal round date at second-seeded Lynchburg Wednesday night at 6 p.m. This will be the third time in six seasons of ODAC play that SU and LC have met in the ODAC Tournament.
Senior Lauren Johnson scored off a beautiful header from an Alison Spaziani cross 22 minutes into the game for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
SU would score twice in the second half to close out E&H. Rebecca Collimore sent a cross inside the six-yard box in the 57th minute, where Shannen de Leon was able to connect and give the Hornets a two-goal advantage. Leah Quick closed out the scoring in the 85th minute by cleaning up a rebound of a Collimore shot.
Collimore's assist on the de Leon goal was her 13th of the season, setting a new season record for the Hornets.
"We knew what was at stake and entire team contributed to the win," SU coach Liz Pike said. "Leah Quick had good finish to secure the game."
