WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Southern Virginia led virtually throughout in a 3-0 non-league volleyball sweep over Shenandoah Tuesday evening.
The Knights (12-4) won at 13, 20 and 9 over the Hornets (5-12).
Shenandoah held its lone lead in the second set, winning three of the initial four points of the set to take a 3-1 lead.
Unfortunately for the Shingleton Gymnasium faithful, SVU scored the next seven points of the set and never trailed again.
In the third, the Knights jumped out to a 5-1 lead, and after SU reeled off a 4-0 run to tie it a 5-5, scored eight straight to again take total control.
Southern Virginia hit .284 on the night, including .346 in the third set as the squad had 13 kills against four errors in just 26 attempts.
Kaitlyn Kelley had four kills for the hosts with Emily Cheatwood, Caylin Harris and Madison Inzunza adding three each.
Kayla Robey and Emily Veach both had four assists with Megan Hillyard chipping in three.
Defensively, Nicole Shannon had 12 digs.
The Hornets are on the road this Saturday with a tri-match at Rowan. SU takes on Arcadia in addition to the host Profs.
