Women's Soccer Dominates Hollins

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's soccer team earned its second ODAC win of the season with a 6-0 home shutout over Hollins University Wednesday afternoon.

The Hornets (7-4, 2-1 ODAC) scored five of their goals in the first half to cruise to the win over Hollins (0-8, 0-3).

Sophomore Emily Yergin set up junior Rebecca Collimore in the 7th minute to provide Shenandoah with all of the offense it would need versus HU.

Collimore, the Hornets third leading scorer coming into the contest, had a goal and three assists in the first half as SU quickly put the game out of reach.

Following that initial goal, coach Liz Pike's squad tallied in the 13th, 19th, 34th and 38th minutes to take that five-goal lead into the break.

Jessica Stuart had two of the goals with Yergin adding a goal and an assist.

Shenandoah took all 24 of the game's shots in the first half and played the vast majority of the game in its offensive end.

In the second, the Hornets elected to play possession, only taking 19 shots, and got its lone goal on a Yergin-to-Juliet Karnes tally in the 80th minute.

Goalkeepers Charlotte Evans, Haley Golden and Kasey Richitt all saw action with Richett playing the entire first half. None of the three was forced to make a save.

The hosts also earned all seven of the game's corners.

"This was a great opportunity to work on some things before Roanoke game," Pike said. "Everybody got to play significant minutes."

SU is back in action on Saturday in a 2 p.m. ODAC game at Roanoke College.
