WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Host Division I William & Mary shot 63 percent from beyond the arc Tuesday night to key a 104-53 victory over Shenandoah.
The Tribe (2-2) made 20 3-pointers, including 11 in the second half, to pull away from Shenandoah (1-1).
W&M, members of the Colonial Athletic Association, also enjoyed a 50-34 advantage on the glass and forced the Hornets into 30 percent (21-of-71) shooting for the night.
The Tribe jumped all over SU quickly, scoring 15 of the initial 19 points of the game, and held a double-digit lead for 35:28 of the 40-minute contest.
With Shenandoah trailing by nine, 15-6, following an Aaron Patterson layup at 14:52, W&M scored 13 of the game's next 15 points to push its lead to 20-points by the 11:26 mark.
The Hornets were able to reel off five straight points of their own to cut the deficit to 15, but their hosts closed out the first half on a 22-7 run to take a 50-20 halftime lead.
The second half brought more of the same with the Tribe pulling away thanks to an 18-11 run to start the stanza.
Alan Dabney and Avery White each had eight points off the bench to lead the visitors in the scoring column with Patterson chipping in seven and AJ Cabbagestalk, Christopher Chaney and Seth Myers six each.
Chaney and Dabney had seven and six rebounds, respectively, to lead SU on the glass.
William & Mary shot 54 percent (37-of-68) from the field and had those 20 3-pointers on 32 attempts in the win.
Shenandoah is back in action Sunday at Gallaudet in a non-league contest.
Note: This contest was a countable victory for William & Mary, but an exhibition for Shenandoah.
