SCRANTON, Pa. – Host University of Scranton had a pair of four-goal runs to key a 10-4 non-league women's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Sunday afternoon.
Junior Annie McCorry put the Hornets (0-2) on the board first with her unassisted tally at 25:31, but Scranton (1-0) had an answer.
The Royals scored the next four goals of the game to take a lead they would not relinquish over SU.
McCorry ended the string with another unassisted goal 22 seconds before halftime, but again Scranton answered.
This four-goal run, stopped by a third McCorry unassisted goal, gave the hosts an 8-3 lead with four minutes remaining.
Jacque Hemler had the Hornets final goal, scoring unassisted just before the final horn to make it 10-4 final.
Scranton outshot SU 23-17 with Shenandoah goalkeeper Madeline Card making 19 saves.
U of S won 11 of the 17 draw controls while SU grabbed 12 of the game's 39 groundballs.
The women are off until hosting Goucher College on Saturday in a 4 p.m. non-league contest. This game is also the back end of a doubleheader with the Shenandoah men.
