ARLINGTON, Va. – A four-goal run late in the second half pushed host Marymount past Shenandoah in a 10-7 non-league women's lacrosse victory Wednesday afternoon.
With the game tied at 6-6 following a Cassie Arndt unassisted goal for the Hornets (2-4) with 15:32 to play, Marymount (7-2) answered with the four-goal run.
Abby Wescott had the first two goals, scoring unassisted at 9:05 and then via free position at 6:42. This latter goal proved to be the game-winner.
The late run also completed a Saints comeback from a four-goal deficit.
Shenandoah scored the initial four goals of the game as Jordyn Miller, Abby Zorrilla, Jacque Hemler and Annie McCorry gave the Hornets a 4-0 lead by the time the game was 10:33 old.
Marymount clawed back in it with four straight, including one with one second to play in the first half and another 18 seconds into the second.
From this point on, the two teams were never separated by more than one goal until Wescott scored on that free position with 6:42 remaining.
SU outshot its hosts 22-19 and had a 10-8 advantage in draw controls.
The two teams split 20 groundballs.
Madeleine Card had five saves in 55:17 of action.
Shenandoah continues this road trip with a Saturday contest at Christopher Newport.
