WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Elizabethtown dominated the third quarter on its way to a 14-8 non-league men's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Jays (3-1) expanded a two-goal, 8-6, halftime lead by tallying all six third quarter goals on their way to the win in the first-ever men's lacrosse contest between the two schools.
Shenandoah (1-3) was held off the board for 20:39 of game time; senior Tilghman Sanders had closed the book on the first half scoring with his unassisted goal 16 second prior to halftime.
The hosts next tally came with 9:05 remaining as Ryan Schott set up Stephen LaTona for the fourth of his five goals on the day.
LaTona's fifth goal, unassisted at 4:56, was the final tally of the game.
SU outshot the 'Jays 40-30, had a 42-31 advantage in groundballs and won 13 of the game's 25 faceoffs.
E-Town goalkeeper Brandon Calle made 12 saves to seven for Ben Judy.
Sanders had a goal and two assists to back up LaTona on the scoresheet.
Shenandoah continues this homestand on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. non-league contest versus Alfred (N.Y.)
