Women's Lax is Tournament Bound

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team punched its ticket to the 2017 ODAC Tournament Saturday with a 15-4 Senior Day victory over Guilford.

Shenandoah (6-10, 3-5 ODAC) came into the contest one game behind the Quakers (6-10, 3-5) in the league standings and caught them with the 11-goal victory.

The two teams end the season tied for sixth with SU earning the sixth and final spot in the league tournament based on the head-to-head tiebreaker.

After GC scored the game's initial goal, by Demming Carlow on a free position at 28:02, Shenandoah ripped off the next four unanswered to take a lead it would not relinquish.

Juniors Annie McCorry and Abby Zorrilla alternated goals, with Zorrilla also assisting on McCorry's first goal.

Carlow broke the string for the Quakers with her unassisted goal at 16:25, but again the Hornets answered with a big run.

Coach Lindsey Lutz' club tallied the next five goals, and nine of 10 in total, to kick in the running clock with 18:01 to play.

Senior Brittany Arndt had three goals with McCorry, Jordyn Miller and Jacque Hemler all scoring two times each to put the Quakers away.

"What a great way to finish the season," Lutz said. "We are peaking at the right time and are excited to be back in the tournament."

McCorry led all scorers with five goals while Arndt and Zorrilla both had three goals and one assist.

Miller had two goals and one assist and Hemler two goals to round out the multiple goal scorers.

SU outshot its visitors 39-11, had a 20-2 advantage in draw controls and grabbed 19 of the game's 33 groundballs.

Shenandoah is likely to be paired versus Roanoke in the opening round of the tournament, which begins on Wednesday on the campus of the higher-seeded team.

The official pairings for the tournament will be announced later Saturday evening.
