SCRANTON, Va. – Salve Regina outlasted the Shenandoah University volleyball team Friday night in a 3-2 non-league victory over the Hornets on day one of the University of Scranton Tournament.
Shenandoah (0-1) was just one set from victory thanks to 25-18 and 25-21 wins in sets two and three, respectively, but saw the Seahawks (2-0) steal the victory with wins in sets four and five.
Salve, which won the opening set at 15, was a 25-13 victor in the fourth before taking the fifth, 15-12.
The two teams were tied at 8-8 in the decisive fifth set and the 'Hawks took the lead for the final time with a 6-3 run that put the squad just one point, 14-11, from victory. Following a Hornets timeout, Emily Cheatwood set Sabrina Semo up for what proved to be Shenandoah's final point of the night.
SRU got the match-clinching point on a kill.
Cheatwood paced Coach Jaime Terenzi's squad with 12 kills while Caylin Harris added 11 and Kaitlyn Kelley 10.
Hannah Lien and Megan Hillyard had 12 and 11 assists, respectively, with each woman recording a double-double by adding 16 digs from Lien and 13 from Hillyard.
Nicole Shannon paced the defense with 26 digs.
The squad finishes the night with an 8:30 match against St. Elizabeth.
