WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Stevenson University scored a goal two minutes into double overtime Saturday to earn a 3-2 non-league field hockey victory over Shenandoah.
Noel Martin scored unassisted at 87:15 to push the Mustangs (4-1) past SU (3-3).
The goal, scored in sudden victory time, capped a rally by the visitors.
After Stevenson scored the opening goal of the game in the sixth minute, Shenandoah answered with goals in the 12th and 20th minutes to take a 2-1 lead into the half.
SU held that lead until the Mustangs brought the game back to even with an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute.
Megan Stevens had the Hornets first goal, off of a Taylor Hayes assist at 11:32, before setting up Daphne Leighty with the go-ahead goal at 19:07.
Stevenson held a 15-13 advantage in shots while the Hornets took eight of the game's 11 corners.
Isabella Morande had seven saves in 52:15 of action in relief of Jenna Rampale.
SU continues this homestand on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. non-league contest versus St. Mary's of Maryland.
