EMORY, Va. – Host Emory and Henry won the first, third and fifth sets Sunday afternoon to outlast Shenandoah University in a 3-2 ODAC volleyball victory over the Hornets.
The Wasps (3-9, 1-2 ODAC) took the 25-21, 11-25, 25-22, 19-25, 15-12 decision over SU (4-7, 0-3) by hitting a team-best .381 in the decisive fifth set.
E&H hit .201 for the match, but was .297 in its three wins versus .082 in its two losses.
Shenandoah hit .304 for the match including a match-high .438 in the second set.
In that fifth set, SU trailed just 11-10 following an Emily Cheatwood kill but saw the Wasps get a kill of their own on the next serve and then score four of the final five points of the match to earn the win.
Caylin Harris and Torie Gettier both had a team-high 15 kills with Kaitlyn Kelley adding 13 and Michelle DiVito 10.
Emily Veach had 30 assists and Megan Hillyard 25 to run the offense with Hillyard just missing a double-double thanks to nine digs.
Kelley did have a double-double as she posted 10 digs. Nicole Shannon had 37 to lead Coach Jaime Terenzi's club in that category.
SU hosts the other set of ODAC Hornets, the Lynchburg Hornets, on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
