Guilford Slips by Men's Soccer

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Host Guilford College earned its first men's soccer win of the season Saturday night with a 3-2 ODAC victory over Shenandoah.

The Quakers (1-9, 1-0 ODAC) scored the game's initial goal in the 18th minute but found themselves trailing after SU (2-6, 0-1) scored two goals in 53 seconds early in the second half.

Ben Chisum put the Hornets on the board with his unassisted tally at 53:40 and following an own goal at 54:33, the visitors now held the lead.

Unfortunately for the SU faithful, Guilford struck back 76 seconds after the own goal to bring the game back to level at 2-2.

The Quakers got the game-winner on a rebound in the 66th minute.

Shenandoah was able to generate two shots and three corner kicks following that final goal but was unable to get the equalizer.

SU outshot its hosts 11-8 and had a 6-2 advantage in corners.

Hornets goalkeeper Sam Fischer had five saves.

The men continue this road trip on Monday with a 7 p.m. non-league contest at Waynesburg.
