Men's Soccer Battles to Tie

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's soccer team snapped a 14-game ODAC losing streak with a 1-1 tie versus Emory and Henry Saturday evening.

Shenandoah (2-8-1, 0-1-1 ODAC) emerged from an ODAC contest without taking a loss for the first time since downing Guilford, 3-2, on October 16, 2015.

The Hornets earned the tie thanks to a Nino Todaro goal in the 69th minute and then held on as the Wasps (4-5-1, 0-1-1) tied it up in the 82nd minute.

Playing through a physical game in which 11 cards were issued, including four red cards, Shenandoah began playing down a man 21 minutes into the game and finished the contest with just seven field players along with the goalkeeper.

Two of the red cards issued to the Hornets came in the second overtime and despite playing down two players, SU only gave up one shot in the second OT.

Goalkeeper Sam Fischer had four saves, including one each in the two 10-minute overtime periods.

"I was very proud of the entire team and their effort tonight," head coach Matt Smith said. "We played from start to finish and earned that (standings) point."

The men continue ODAC play on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. contest at Lynchburg.
