WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team earned its first-ever win in the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center with an 80-57 non-league victory over Elizabethtown College Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah (2-1) won for the second straight time as Christopher Chaney poured in 24 points along with seven rebounds to down the Blue Jays (1-2) for the second consecutive year.

IN BRIEF

SU led wire-to-wire as it scored eight of the game's first 10 points and owned a 17-4 lead by the time the contest was eight minutes old.

E-Town made its only run with a 14-2 spurt from the 11:25 to 6:30 marks of the first that cut the Hornets lead to just one, 19-18, following an Ethan Dubois 3-pointer.

Alex Horvath answered with a '3' of his own on the hosts' next trip down the floor to ignite a 9-0 run and Shenandoah never looked back 

Leading by nine with 11:06 remaining, SU reeled off a 33-19 run to finish the contest.

In addition to Chaney's 24, Jalyn Jarrett and Avery White had 11 points each and Jason Tate 10 points.

Bryce Greene had 13 points and Dubois 10 for the visitors.

"Very proud of our team, our defensive effort and our ability to rebound," head coach Adam Walsh said. "Those two things show effort and are going to help us continue to build our program. 

"I am also very proud of our guys for getting our first-ever win in the Wilkins Center in our first chance this season. That is a milestone for our program."

Shenandoah is back in action in eight days, opening its ODAC slate at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 25 at Emory and Henry.
