Tigers Top Men's Hoops

WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Hampden-Sydney had a stellar shooting afternoon in an 89-75 ODAC men's basketball victory over Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon at the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center.

Hampden-Sydney (4-2, 1-1 ODAC) shot 57 percent (29-of-51) on the day including 14-of-21 (67 percent in the second half to hold off Shenandoah (2-4, 0-2). 

IN BRIEF

The Hornets were able to cut a 10-point halftime deficit to just two, 51-49, following a Jaylen Williams layup at 13:29, but could not come all the way back.

For the second straight game, free throw shooting woes hurt the Hornets as the squad shot 12-of-20 (60 percent) from the line. In the second half, SU missed a pair with 12:50 that could have knotted the score at 51-51.

Leading 54-52 after Alan Dabney hit two free throws at 11:42, the Tigers pulled away with a 9-2 run over the next 4:29. From this point on, Shenandoah would get no closer than five points.

H-SC was 11-for-12 from the stripe in the final two minutes to secure the victory.

Shenandoah travels to Juniata on Monday for a 7 p.m. non-league contest.
