HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team earned its third win of the season Monday night with a 76-65 non-league victory at Juniata.
Shenandoah (3-4) erased an early five-point deficit to earn its second road win in the past three trips.
Juniata (2-5) scored the first five points of the game and held the Hornets off the scoreboard for the initial 4:07 of the contest, but saw SU score eight straight points and never trail again.
IN BRIEF
Junior Jalyn Jarrett gave the Hornets the lead for good with a layup at the 12:50 mark of the first to put the visitors up 10-8.
The layup started an 8-0 run for Shenandoah over the next 2:25 that gave coach Adam Walsh' club a 16-8 lead following a Christopher Chaney jump shot with 10:25 remaining in the first.
Another Jarrett bucket, this one a 3-pointer at 4:23, kickstarted an 11-7 Shenandoah run to complete the first half and a 29-19 lead at the break.
The Hornets effectively sealed the victory by starting the second half on a 9-0 run and saw their lead expand out to 24-points following a Jason Tate 3-pointer with 7:44 left.
Shenandoah coasted home to the 11-point win while holding a double-digit lead for the entire second half.
QUOTABLE
"We are very excited about how well we played defensively as a team," Walsh said. "We definitely have lots to take away from this one to continue to improve on as our guys gain experience. It's tough to win on the road so we love to get them when we can."
