WINCHESTER, Va. – The No. 13/30 Shenandoah University baseball team scored in every inning but one Thursday in a 17-3 non-league victory over Mount Aloysius.
Shenandoah (8-3) put up crooked numbers in the first, second and third innings to make quick work of the Mounties (1-12).
Junior Reeves Lowry (2-0) didn't need the offensive support as he tossed six innings of scoreless baseball before leaving with a 14-0 lead.
Lowry struck out four, including the side in the first, and did not allow a hit for the initial 3 2/3 innings.
Four relievers finished up for SU with senior Derrick Snider getting the final three outs to lock down the Hornets fifth straight non-conference victory.
Seven of the squad's starters hit safely in the game with both Robert Marcelle and Luke Nussman contributing three hits each.
Marcelle, who finished 3-for-4 for two runs scored and an RBI, was only a home run short of hitting for the cycle. The junior singled in the first, driving in the victors first run, tripled in the fourth and doubled in the sixth.
Nussman sandwiched an RBI single in the third around doubles to right in the second and seventh. The latter double plated two runs.
Keegan Woolford and Chase Smallwood fueled a six-run sixth with three-run home runs to center and left, respectively.
Smallwood also drove in runs with a sacrifice fly in the second and a fielder's choice in the third.
Right fielder Grant Thompson rounded out the players with multiple hits thanks to a 2-for-3 afternoon that included a two-run double in the second.
SU is back in action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. non-league home contest against No. 14 Frostburg State.
