Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Maroons Top Men's Lax

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Roanoke College scored eight of the game's initial nine goals on its way to a 21-5 ODAC men's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Cameron Mullinix finished off a Michael Brooks feed at the 9:10 mark of the first to tie the game at 1-1 for the Hornets (3-5, 0-2), but it was all Roanoke following that goal.

The No. 12 Maroons (6-1, 2-0) scored the game's next seven goals to take an 8-1 lead by the 10:45 mark of the second.

Junior Eric Sawyer ended the Roanoke run with an unassisted goal at 6:16 only to see RC scored four of the final five goals of the first half.

Sawyer had that lone SU goal in the run, scoring off of a Ryan Schott assist at 3:38 of the second.

The Maroons continued to maintain their level of play over the final 30 minutes, holding Shenandoah to a pair of Orlando Levins goals. Sawyer set up the first one, at 8:12 of the third, before he scored the final goal of the game unassisted with 68 seconds remaining.

Roanoke held the advantage in shots, 46-23, ground balls 38-25, and face-offs, 16-of-27. Andrew Shy had 11 of those wins for the Hornets.

Jason Simpson made 11 saves and Michael Beutel added two more in six minutes of action.

Shenandoah is back in action next Saturday in an ODAC contest at Guilford.
