WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 8/7 Roanoke College finished off a weekend baseball sweep of No. 16 Shenandoah University with a 14-3 ODAC victory Sunday afternoon.

The Maroons (16-3, 7-0 ODAC) scored three runs in the first and seven more in the second to take a commanding lead over Shenandoah (10-6, 2-3).

SU used four pitchers in the second inning as Roanoke sent 11 men to the plate and scored the seven runs on four hits, three walks and a hit batsman.

Dean Hermanson had the big blow in the frame with a three-run double down the left field line to make the score 8-1.

Shenandoah, which was held without a hit for the initial 4 1/3 innings, scored single runs in the first, fifth and eighth innings.

Henry Delavergne, who had the Hornets first hit with a double to left with one out in the fifth, later scored on a wild pitch.

Nick Goode moved Delavergne in position to come home on that wild pitch with an infield single.

James Papeika and David Delawder drove in the squad's other two runs with sacrifice flies in the first and eighth, respectively.

Ben West (4-1) was the winner for the Maroons. He allowed two runs on two hits and five walks in 5.0 innings.

Robert Klinchock (2-2) took the loss, giving up six runs (five earned) on five hits and three walks in 1 1/3 innings.

Shenandoah is back on the diamond Monday versus Dickinson. This game is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, but could be switched to Winchester depending upon the field conditions at Dickinson.
