Baseball Slugs Past Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va. – No. 24 Shenandoah University earned its second baseball victory of the week Thursday afternoon with an 18-12 non-league win at Marymount University.

The Hornets (12-6) broke open the contest with a six-run seventh.

After scoring one run in the first, another in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth, SU saw Marymount (9-9) come all the way back with a six-spot of its own in the fourth.

Trailing 8-7 after the Saints scored a single run in the sixth, Shenandoah scored six runs on five hits, a walk, and a hit batsman in the seventh.

Henry Delavergne, Tristan Baker, Keegan Woolford, Luke Ragotzy and Grant Thompson all drove in runs in the frame with Thompson's two-run single driving in Ragotzy and Baker.

Baker's RBI came when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded while Ragotzy had an RBI single to center.

Marymount answered with one run in the bottom of the seventh and two more in the eighth, but a four-spot in the ninth sealed the victory for coach Kevin Anderson's squad.

SU pounded out a season-high 23 hits in the win with Delavergne, Jamie Naill and Luke Nussman all getting four each. Delavergne had three doubles.

Thompson and Naill both drove in three runs with Nussman and Matt Moon each plating in a pair.

Gerard DePhillips (2-1) got the win with three innings of relief work. He allowed four runs in six hits and two walks against two strikeouts in that time.

Shenandoah returns to ODAC play tomorrow with a 3 p.m. game at Guilford.
