WINCHESTER, Va. – In a game that featured four ties and one lead change, visiting Randolph-Macon scored the final goal in a 15-14 ODAC women's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon.
Hannah Jones scored off of a Alicia Hsieh assist with 4:14 to play to push the Yellow Jackets (7-6, 4-1 ODAC) past SU (9-5, 3-2).
The Hornets led for the initial 37:40 of the game, holding a four-goal lead at one point, only to see R-MC reel off five straight goals midway through the second half to seize a two-goal lead with 21:28 to play.
Shenandoah was able to rally to tie the game at both 12-12, following an Alyson Bittinger goal, and 14-14 after Bittinger scored again with 7:44 remaining, but was unable to find the go-ahead goal. The Hornets had three shots following the last Macon goal with one going wide, one saved and one blocked.
Bittinger led the hosts with four goals and two assists while Cassie Arndt added two goals and two assists and Jordyn Miller three goals.
Anna Baxter posted two goals and one assist and Abby Zorrilla two goals.
SU outshot the 'Jackets 33-32 and had a 21-18 advantage in groundballs while Macon won 18 of the 31 draw controls.
The Shenandoah women are back in action next Saturday at Guilford in a noon ODAC contest.
