Baseball Tops Royals

HARRISONBURG, Va. – No. 11/26 Shenandoah University ran its baseball winning streak to 16 games Wednesday afternoon with an 11-10 ODAC victory at Eastern Mennonite.

Shenandoah (26-6, 12-3 ODAC) scored runs in all but two innings in completing the season sweep of the Royals (11-23, 2-13).

Leading by four, 11-7, following a two-run top of the ninth, the Hornets saw EMU score three runs on two hits, two walks and a hit batsmen before senior reliever Michael Bugonowicz shut the door with a called strike three.

The Royals had the tying run on second and the winning run at first when Bugonowicz got the strikeout for his fourth save of the season.

Sophomore Gerard DePhillips was the winner with 3 1/3 innings of relief work. He allowed one run on three hits while striking out two.

Jonathan Dance got the next five outs before tiring in the ninth. Bugonowicz took over for Derrick Snider and registered the final three outs of the contest.

SU had 12 hits on the day with Keegan Woolford going 3-for-5 with an RBI and Henry Delavergne and Grant Thompson both getting two hits.

Delavergne drove in two runs and had a solo HR in the sixth.

Tristan Baker also drove in two runs.

Shenandoah hosts No. 4/3 Randolph-Macon on Saturday in a noon ODAC doubleheader.
