LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team completed its regular season Saturday afternoon with a 20-9 ODAC loss at Lynchburg College.
With the win, Lynchburg (8-7, 6-2 ODAC) claims the third seed at the upcoming ODAC Tournament.
Shenandoah (11-6, 5-3) will be the No. 4 seed and host fifth-seeded Bridgewater on Wednesday in the ODAC Tournament quarterfinals.
This game is tentatively set for 7 p.m. on the Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium turf.
The winner of Wednesday's game advances to the semi-finals at Washington and Lee on Saturday.
Lynchburg led from start to finish Saturday afternoon, scoring eight of the game's first nine goals to lead 8-1 with 7:02 remaining in the first half.
Abby Zorrilla and Jordyn Miller combined for back-to-back goals at 5:11 and 3:26 to cut the SU deficit to five, 8-3, before LC scored twice in the final 40 seconds of the stanza to take a 10-3 lead into the half.
Shenandoah opened the second on a 3-1 run, getting goals from Miller, Annie McCorry and Cassie Arndt, but would get no closer than five goals.
The two teams split the next four tallies before Lynchburg pulled away thanks to a seven-goal run that gave the hosts a 20-8 lead with 9:04 remaining.
LC scored the first five goals of this spurt in just 77 seconds.
McCorry, off of an Arndt assist, closed out the game's scoring with 5:02 to play.
Lynchburg held a 34-23 advantage in shots and won 22-of-31 draw controls while SU had a 14-13 edge in groundballs.
The two teams split 12 saves.
