Volleyball Swept in Opener

MAHWAH, N.J. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team opened up its 2018 season Friday afternoon with a 3-0 non-league loss to Ramapo College of New Jersey.

IN BRIEF

All three sets were close as the Roadrunners (1-0) sandwiched 26-24 victories in the first and third sets around a 25-22 second set victory.

Senior Caylin Harris paced the Hornets (0-1) with 10 kills with Emily Cheatwood adding nine and Hannah Lien eight.

Shenandoah had 13 kills in the opening set and 12 each in sets two and three.

Senior Nicole Shannon paced the defense with 29 digs while Harris had a double-double thanks to her 11 digs.

Emily Veach and Megan Hillyard had 16 and 14 assists, respectively.

Lien also had four block assists.

MATCH NOTES

  • SU hit .159 for the match with 37 total kills against 15 errors in 138 attempts

  • Cheatwood was tops in percentage, hitting .571

  • Ramapo hit .174 (49-24-144) and had 78 digs

  • The Roadrunners had seven of the nine service aces on the day

  • This was the first-ever volleyball matchup between the two schools

Shenandoah completes this weekend trip to the New York City area with a 3 p.m. non-league match at St. Joseph's (L.I.) Saturday afternoon.
