Hockey Outlasts Mustangs in OT

PIKESVILLE, Md. - Shenandoah defeated Stevenson University on Saturday night with a 3-2 non-league win in overtime.

Kayla Alderman scored the sudden-victory goal in the 78th minute to push the Hornets (5-1) ahead of the Mustangs (3-3).  

HOW IT HAPPENED

11:44 | Morgan Payne inserted a strong penalty corner from the right side of the goal to Megan Stevens who then passed the ball to her left where Taylor Hayes was ready for the shot. Hayes scored from 12 yards out.

15:57 | Payne delivered a second corner from the left side of the goal to Taylor Hayes, Raven Barter redirected Hayes' shot above the goalies head for her first goal of the season.

77:33 | Senior Kayla Alderman found the back of the goal from a Kelsey Jones pass for the game-winning goal.

Stevenson

25:28 | Sara McVay controlled the ball through the Shenandoah defense, delivered a short cross to her right where Emma Adams had a clear shot to goal.

59:45 | Brigid Saroch set Sara McVey up for break-away goal.

"Today was a huge test for us," said Head Coach Ashley Smeltzer-Kraft. "We took the lead early but let them come back in the second half. Everyone battled the whole time and we found a way to come back home with a win."

The Hornets play at St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday, September 19th. This is their third of four consecutive away games.
