WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team opened up its 2019-20 season Saturday with a 64-39 non-league loss to Marymount University.

The Saints (1-0) bridged the first quarter break with an 8-0 run to take control over the Hornets (0-1).

Trailing by just two, 14-12, following a
Sarah Donley layup with 87 seconds to play in the opening stanza, Shenandoah saw its visitors score the next eight points of the game and 12 of the ensuing 13 to take a 26-13 lead by the 5:36 mark of the season.

The Hornets lone point during this run was a Regan Johnson free throw at 7:48.

Olivia Weinel briefly interrupted the Saints run with a jumper at 4:52, but Marymount wasn't finished.

MU closed out the opening half by scoring 10 of the final 15 points in the second and took a 36-20 lead into the break.

A 7-2 Marymount run to start the third prevented SU from building any momentum and the Hornets would get no closer than 19 points the rest of the way.
