Women's Hoops Pounds Panthers

Down Ferrum by 20 for Third Straight Win

FERRUM, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team earned its third straight victory with a 69-49 ODAC victory at Ferrum College.
 
Defending ODAC champion SU (3-2, 2-0 ODAC) shot 43 percent from the field in pulling away from the Panthers (0-6, 0-2).

IN BRIEF

The Hornets led 9-2 after one, holding the Panthers to 1-of-12 shooting (8.3 percent) in taking a lead they would not relinquish.
 
Coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft's club expanded that lead by an additional five points in the second, taking a 29-17 lead into the break, before outscoring its hosts by eight points over the final 20 minutes of play.
 
In addition to the 43 percent shooting, Shenandoah had a 38-19 advantage on the glass that led to a 32-12 bulge on points-in-the-paint.
 
SU scored eight second chance points and 16 points off of 25 Ferrum turnovers.
 
Senior Jordan Sondrol led all scorers with 20 points and had her first double-double of the season thanks to a 10-rebound performance.
 
Olivia Weinel added 16 points and Ragan Johnson 11 in support of Sondrol's output.
