HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Host Hampden-Sydney rallied for a 78-73 ODAC men's basketball victory over Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon.
Â
Shenandoah (3-4, 1-1 ODAC) held an 11-point, 42-31, lead following a
Harry Wall jumper in the paint with 17:33 remaining, but H-SC had an answer.
IN DEPTH
The Tigers (3-5, 1-1) responded with a 12-5 run over the next 3:43 to get themselves back in it, and then kept the pressure up until they took the lead for good.
Â
Alan Dabney briefly reasserted control for the Hornets by sandwiching a jumper and a 3-pointer around an H-SC bucket, but it was not enough.
Â
The Tigers answered Dabney's '3' at 12:07 with 15 of the game's next 19 points to take a 60-56 lead with 7:43 remaining.
Â
Zach Garrett ended this run with a 3-pointer of his own at 7:24 only to see Hampden-Sydney snap back with a 6-2 spurt to push the margin to five points by the 5:34 mark.
Â
Shenandoah would get no closer than three points the rest of the way as H-SC coasted home to its 13th victory over the Hornets in 17 lifetime meetings.
