WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's tennis team opened its 2019 spring season Saturday night with an 8-1 win over Mary Baldwin.
Shenandoah (1-0) swept the three doubles matches, sandwiching an 8-0 win at No. 2 between 8-2 wins at Nos. 1 and 3.
Freshman Megan Hillyard had the match-clinching win, taking out Alexis Gonzales at love in the No. 4 singles match.
IN BRIEF
The Squirrels avoided the shutout by winning 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 1-0 (10-6) at No. 1 singles.
Madison Rogers, Emma Crue, Caitlin Bennett and Mary Wolfrey all joined Hillyard in winning two matches on the night.
UP NEXT
Shenandoah is back in action on March 2 in a 7:30 p.m. non-league match versus Notre Dame (Md.).
