EMORY, Va. – The Shenandoah University baseball team opened up its 2019 ODAC slate Sunday with a doubleheader sweep over Emory and Henry.
Shenandoah (4-2, 2-0 ODAC) was a 10-8 winner over the Wasps (2-9, 0-2) in the opener before completing the sweep with an 8-1 win in the nightcap.
GAME ONE
SU rallied with four runs in the top of the ninth to down its hosts.
Grant Thompson got the rally started with a double to center before Tristan Baker drew a walk. Luke Nussman then beat out a bunt single back to the pitcher to load the bases.
Following a Keegan Woolford pop-out, Jaime Naill singled through the left side to plate Thompson and Baker and tie the game at 8-8. Robert Marcelle then greeted reliever Landon Biddix with a double to left center to bring home Nussman and Naill and provide the final margin of victory.
The rally made a winner of senior Brandon McKenzie, who got the final out of the E&H eighth. Gerard DePhillips gave up a pair of singles to start the ninth, but picked the lead runner off at second before getting a groundout to third and a strikeout looking to notch his first save.
Thompson and Marcelle both had three hits with Marcelle and Naill each driving in four runs.
Zach Houston took the loss for the Wasps. He gave up five runs on six hits and two walks in 4 1/3 innings.
GAME TWO
Junior Reeves Lowry (1-0) scattered three hits and four walks in the initial eight innings as the offense backed him up with two runs in the first, two more in the second and then four in the fifth.
The Hornets banged out 11 hits in the win with Nussman posting three hits in five at-bats and Marcelle hitting a two-run home run to cap the scoring in the fifth.
Henry Delavergne was 2-for-4 while Naill drove in an additional two runs.
Lowry struck out five before turning it over to Joel Smith for the ninth.

Shenandoah is right back at it Monday afternoon at 5 in a home non-league contest versus Messiah.
