Baseball Tops Eagles

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Shenandoah University baseball team won its second straight ODAC contest with a 7-5 win at arch-rival Bridgewater Wednesday afternoon.

Shenandoah (8-3, 3-1 ODAC) scored two runs in the third, fifth and eighth innings to go along with a single run in the seventh to down the Eagles (7-11, 2-3).

IN BRIEF

Freshman Carson Kulina (2-0) tossed the first 6.0 innings, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four, to pick up his second win in nine days.

With Bridgewater rallying from a 7-3 deficit by scoring one run and putting two runners in scoring position in the eighth, Hornets skipper Kevin Anderson turned to junior Gerard DePhillips to end the Eagles threat.

DePhillips notched his fourth save of the spring by getting a pair of flyouts in the eighth and then working a 1-2-3 ninth.

Wyatt Potter had what proved to be the game-winning RBI with a double to left in the eighth with Henry Delavergne driving in the squad's final run.

Robert Marcelle had three of the Hornets 10 hits with Luke Nussman driving in a pair of runs. He had an RBI single in the third followed by a run-scoring groundout in the fifth.

Tristan Daywalt (2-1) took the loss for the Eagles. He allowed four runs on five hits and two walks in 5.0 innings.
