Baseball Splits with Maroons

SALEM, Va. – The Shenandoah University baseball team had its second consecutive split of an ODAC doubleheader by taking one of two from Roanoke College Saturday.

Shenandoah (9-4, 5-2 ODAC) was a 3-2 winner in game two after Roanoke (9-10, 6-1) took the opener by a 2-1 count.

GAME ONE

The Hornets had a 1-0 lead in the opener thanks to a run in the fifth, but the Maroons rallied with two runs in the sixth off of SU starter Reeves Lowry (1-2) and made that single run advantage hold up.

Wyatt Potter had three of the Hornets six hits in the contest.

Lowry allowed the two runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings of work. He also had five strikeouts.

Jamie Naill scored the visitors run by coming home on a wild pitch.

GAME TWO

A three-run eighth erased a 2-0 deficit and gave Shenandoah the 3-2 victory in the nightcap.

Tristan Baker led off that three-run frame with a single up the middle and after advancing to second on a Luke Nussman base on balls followed by a Robert Marcelle sacrifice bunt, came home on a Potter single to center.

Following a fielder's choice that cut down Nussman at the plate, Keegan Woolford doubled to center to bring home Potter and Pearce Bucher with the tying and winning runs.

Southpaw Robert Klinchock (3-1) got the win after allowing two runs on four hits and two walks in 7 1/3 innings. Gerard DePhillips got his fifth save, and second of the week, by recording the final five outs.

DePhillips allowed a leadoff single in the ninth, but worked out of it with a flyout and a strikeout after Roanoke sacrificed the leadoff runner to second.

Baker and Henry Delavergne both had two hits.

UP NEXT

Shenandoah returns home on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. ODAC contest versus Eastern Mennonite.
