Baseball Falls Versus Royals

WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Eastern Mennonite University rallied for eight runs in the final four innings Tuesday to earn an 8-4 ODAC baseball victory over Shenandoah.

The Royals (9-13-1, 3-6 ODAC) erased a 3-0 deficit with two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh before putting up a four-spot on the Hornets (9-5, 5-3) in the eighth.

IN BRIEF

Shenandoah scored three runs in the fourth thanks to a throwing error on a two-out strikeout followed by a walk and a two-run single to right by Grant Thompson.

Keegan Woolford, who had singled to right with two outs, scored the first run when Henry Delavergne struck out but was safe at first base on a throwing error by the EMU catcher.

The offense was not enough as the Hornets walked in a pair of runs in the sixth before Eastern Mennonite scored two runs on two hits in the seventh.

The Royals pulled away with four runs on four hits in the eighth.

Thompson, Matt Moon, Luke Nussman and Wyatt Potter all had two hits for the hosts.

Michael Robst (0-1) took the loss. The third of six SU pitchers, he allowed two runs on two hits and one walk in 1 2/3 innings. He and starter Matt Barnes each had three strikeouts.

Ethan Mathews (3-0) was the winner in relief for EMU. He scattered four hits in 2 1/3 innings.
