WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University baseball team scored at least one run in every inning on its way to an 18-5 non-league victory over Marymount University Tuesday afternoon.
Shenandoah (19-9) broke open a 2-2 game with an eight-spot in the third versus the Saints (14-16).
IN BRIEF
The Hornets scored the eight runs on just five hits as Marymount pitchers Jacob Hardney and Stephen Gerade issued a combined three walks in the frame.
Two of the walks came with the bases loaded and the third would have been a bases loaded base-on-balls had Hardney (0-3) not uncorked his third wild pitch of the contest.
Hardney took the loss after giving up seven runs (six earned) on five hits and four walks in 2.0 innings.
The Saints ended up using seven pitchers in the game.
The Hornets offense continued to pour it on, scoring two runs in the fourth and three in the sixth to go along with single runs in the fifth, seventh and ninth.
The three-run sixth came via the longball as Keegan Woolford drilled his sixth home run of the season to lead off the frame and Grant Thompson had a two-run shot three batters later.
Shenandoah had 17 hits in the game with seven of the nine starters getting at least one hit and four: Woolford, Thompson, Frankie Ritter and Robert Marcelle, getting at least two each.
Thompson and Marcelle were both 3-for-4. Thompson had three RBI and Ritter, Woolford, Marcelle and Tristan Baker all drove in two runs.
Carson Kulina (3-0) was the winning pitcher. He threw the first seven innings and gave up four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six.
Ethan Laird and Tad Dean pitched the eighth and ninth, respectively.
