Volleyball Splits at Pitt-Greensburg

Hornets Down Host Bobcats in Five

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Shenandoah University volleyball team split its non-league tri-match Saturday at Pitt-Greensburg.
 
Shenandoah (3-7) rebounded from a 3-0 loss to Mt. St. Joseph in the opener to win, 3-2, over Pitt-Greensburg in the final match of the day.
 

MATCH ONE RECAP

MSJ (8-1) won at 20, 20 and 17 over the Hornets in the middle match of the day.
 
Senior Emily Cheatwood led SU with seven kills with Kieran Turner and Torie Gettier adding five each.
 
Megan Hillyard and Brooke Wagner each posted six assists with Niki Balestri and Kate Poppo chipping in 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
 
The Hornets hit .081 (24-17-86) to .167 (39-21-108) for Mt. St. Joe.
 

MATCH TWO RECAP

After winning the opening set, 25-17, Shenandoah found itself down 2-1 after the Bobcats (2-9) won sets two and three at 17 and 20, respectively.
 
SU controlled the fourth set, winning 25-15, setting up a winner-take-all fifth.
 
The fifth set featured five ties and three lead changes and the Hornets rallied back from a 13-11 deficit to win, 16-14.
 
Cheatwood put SU one point from victory with her 13th kill of the match before Kate Poppo set up Megan Hillyard for the match-clinching point.
 
Poppo and Gettier backed up Cheatwood with eight kills each while Hillyard had 20 assists and seven service aces.
 
Balestri (20), Poppo (15) and Gabby Coradazzi (10) all had double-digit digs.
 
Wagner posted 16 assists in support of the offense.
 
Shenandoah hit .183 (50-22-153) for the match, including .357 (11-1-28) in the fifth.
