WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University field hockey team earned its first-ever victory over Mary Washington with a 3-2 non-league win over the Eagles Wednesday evening on the Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium turf.
Shenandoah (5-1) earned its first victory in four lifetime meetings with the Eagles (2-3) by scoring the initial three goals of the game and then withstanding a furious UMW rally in the second.

Raven Barter scored the game's opening goal, tallying unassisted in the eighth minute, before
Lindsey Florio and
Jessica Donovan tallied at 14:51 and 16:28, respectively.
Hannah Mink set up Florio's goal.
Mary Washington, which was held to zero shots in the first quarter, took three shots in the third and four in the fourth in its attempt to rally.
Goals in the 35
th and 48
th minutes put the Eagles one goal from getting back to even, but the Hornets defense stepped up in the final 12:02 of the contest.
SU allowed only one shot in the remaining time and goalkeeper
Isabella Morande made her fifth and final save to help clinch the victory.
