Hornets Close Out Non-League Slate with 3-2 Win

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's soccer team concluded its non-league schedule Wednesday evening with a 3-2 non-league victory over Mary Washington.

Senior Emily Yergin tallied the opening goal of the game for the Hornets (6-3), scoring off of an Abby Alexa assist in the 41st minute to put SU on top to stay over the Eagles (3-5).

IN BRIEF

Yergin's goal, the 53rd of her career, put on top to stay but Shenandoah needed a pair of second half goals to record its third straight victory over Mary Washington.

Marquette's goal, from 35-yards out and into the upper right-hand corner, put the Hornets up 2-0 with 18 minutes remaining.

The tally also started a goal-scoring flurry.

UMW cut its deficit in half on a Brielle Mitchell goal 46 seconds after Marquette's goal, but would get no closer as Alexa and Kristen Fisher set up Maiya Pencile at 82:05 to give the Hornets some breathing room.

SU would need that cushion as Mary Washington closed out the scoring at 88:13.
