WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 23 Virginia Wesleyan combined a strong start with a solid defensive effort to down host Shenandoah, 71-55, in ODAC men's basketball action Wednesday afternoon.
Â
The Marlins (13-2, 5-1 ODAC) took control of the contest with a 14-3 run early in the first and never let off the gas in winning their 23
rd straight game over Shenandoah (5-10, 2-4).
IN BRIEF
After SU tied the game at 4-4 on an
Ethan Diffee stickback 5:32 into the contest, VWU reeled off that 14-3 run over the next 2:37 to take a lead it would not relinquish.
Â
Consecutive 3-pointers from
Christopher Chaney and
Avery White to finish the first half allowed Shenandoah to cut the halftime deficit to seven, 29-22.
Â
The Hornets stayed within striking distance to start the second until another Marlins run, this one 12-3 from 10:43 to 7:48, effectively sealed the visitors win.
Â
Shenandoah would get no closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
