WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team earned its third straight victory to start the 2020 season with a 16-10 non-league win Wednesday night at McDaniel.
Â
Played in misty, foggy conditions, the Hornets (3-0) rebounded from an early three-goal deficit to top the Green Terror (0-2) for the second straight season.
IN BRIEF
Down 5-2 after McDaniel got an Emily Sheppard-to-Kealey Allison goal at 19:29, the Hornets went on an 11-1 run to totally seize control of the contest.
Â
Alyson Bittinger got it started with an unassisted tally at 18:13, and after
Cassie Arndt scored unassisted at 11:40 to make it 6-5, the Hornets had the lead for good.
Â
Emma Stiffler closed out the visitors first half scoring with a man-up goal at 3:36.
Â
A McDaniel goal at 2:24 cut the hosts' deficit in half, 7-6, at the break, but Shenandoah was not done.
Â
The Hornets scored the initial six goals of the second, starting with a
Kaitlyn Morris tally 59 seconds in, and ended with a Morris-to-
Natalie Nichols goal at 22:40.
Â
Bittinger and Morris both had two goals during this game-clinching run.
Â
Shenandoah had at least a five-goal advantage the rest of the way.
Â
Ashley McFarlane had 17 saves in the win.
Bittinger's five goals led the way for the victors and her last tally pushed her past Sara Mucciaro '11 for sixth place on the all-time goals list. She is also now 10th in scoring.Â
QUOTABLE
"I was proud of our team for making a mental shift at halftime," head coach
Lindsey Lutz said. "We ended up with nine different women scoring goals, so we had good balance."
