Women's Lacrosse Flies Past Ducks

Women's Lax Defeats Stevens Tech 9-6 at the US Lacrosse Headquarters

SPARKS, Md. – The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team prevailed on Saturday afternoon with a 9-6 non-conference win over Stevens Institute of Technology at the US Lacrosse Headquarters.

The Hornets (4-0) prevailed over the Ducks (1-1) in a defensive showcase on William G. Tierney Field.

IN BRIEF

Natalie Nichols put SU on the board first two minutes into the game as the flurries started to fall.

With the score tied at three a piece at the 9:27 mark, Shenandoah took the lead permanently with four minutes left in the first half.

The Hornets were a woman-up and senior Jordyn Miller took advantage to take a 4-3 lead. Alyson Bittinger added to the lead just 30 seconds later winning the draw and taking it to the house.

Shenandoah owned a one goal lead at the half but would go on to outscore Stevens 4-2 in the second half to secure the win.

Two of the four goals in the half came off free-positions, first from Bittinger and the second from Megan Egan with 25:40 remaining. Bittinger, who ended with 5 goals, extended the lead to three with an unassisted tally at the 25:01 mark.

The Stevens goalies combined for 11 saves with freshman Ashley MacFarlane making 10 on her own.

Cold weather affected both teams, high winds prevented clean clears with the teams combining for 48 turnovers.

QUOTABLE

"It is such an honor to be able to play at the US Lacrosse Headquarters. It was an incredible experience for our student-athletes to learn about our game and the history of the sport that we are privileged to play each day. This was the most physical team that we have faced and preserved through some adverse weather and the physicality of play." -Head Coach Lindsey Lutz
